Jahez Project | Strengthening the Inclusive and Socio-Economic Participation of Youth in Selected Communities in Libya

The Jahez Project (meaning “Ready” in English) is all about empowering young people across Libya by creating opportunities for them to actively participate in shaping their communities and improving their economic prospects. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Moomken Organization for Awareness and Media and the Libyan Ministry of Youth, the project focuses on building stronger, more inclusive communities through youth centers spread across the country.

Our Mission: Empowering Libyan Youth

At its core, Jahez is designed to create a supportive environment where young people can grow, develop new skills, and gain the tools they need to succeed. Through youth centers in various cities, the project offers hands-on training, resources, and opportunities that help build skills in areas like inclusion, empowerment, and economic development. This isn’t just about educationit’s about real change. By investing in these young people, Jahez is opening doors to better job opportunities and a brighter future, both for them and their communities.

Key Initiatives and Training Programs

Online Courses for Capacity Building

Following field visits to youth centers, we realized that there was a need for more accessible training resources. That’s why Moomken developed online courses, available on Mocs.ly, specifically designed to help young people get better at planning and managing projects. These courses help youth center members take charge of activities within their centers and make a meaningful impact in their local areas.

  • Needs Assessment Training: This course helps participants understand how to gather and analyze information to make smarter decisions that benefit their communities.
  • Project Management Training: Here, youth are introduced to leadership skills, teamwork, and goal setting, while learning how to create sustainable and impactful youth-driven projects. The course materials were thoughtfully put together by Moomken’s media team and led by project management expert Dr. Mahmoud Abusaloom.

Training of Trainers (TOT) Programs

Through our Training of Trainers (TOT) programs, we’re helping youth center members become leaders in their communities. In collaboration with GIZ, we’ve hosted a series of TOT sessions to build deeper expertise in key areas:

  • Peacebuilding and Facilitation: This training equips participants with tools to manage conflict, lead focus groups, and promote peace in their communities.
  • Project Management: This session, attended by 12 youth center members from across Libya, builds on their knowledge of how to manage projects effectively.
  • Career Guidance: In our final TOT program, participants were given the skills to help others in their communities with career planning and personal development.

After each TOT, participants are encouraged to share what they’ve learned by hosting their own workshops, passing on their knowledge to others, and expanding the reach of these important lessons.

Strengthening Communities Together

The Jahez Project is more than just training—it’s about building a foundation for long-term success. By helping youth center members develop their skills and create real, community-focused projects, we’re working to build sustainable change. In addition to training, participants have been encouraged to submit proposals that offer fresh ideas for peacebuilding and community development. These proposals are reviewed by peers and community members, ensuring that they are rooted in the real needs of the local community.
